VANCOUVER WATERFRONT RESTAURANTS

Recently, the Vancouver waterfront along the Columbia west of the Interstate Bridge has been completely redeveloped.  Just a couple of miles away from the Red Lion, you’ll find a number of delightful places for food, beer and wine.  Just get on I5 northbound from Jantzen Beach, take exit 1B and follow the signs to the Vancouver Waterfront.

(This being low-key Vancouver, none of these are very expensive.  But remember, unlike in Oregon, there will be sales tax added to your bill.)

Going from east to west, starting at the Interstate Bridge:

WAREHOUSE ‘23

100 Columbia Street

(360) 750-7256

http://www.warehouse1923.com/

This restaurant is located in the old Red Lion Inn at the Quay building (home to GameStorm for many years).  It serves anything from burgers and pizza to ribs and seafood, with a large beer list.

It can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so reservations are a good idea if you have a large group.

STACK 571 BURGER & WHISKEY BAR

660 Waterfront Way

(360) 450-0774                   (They don’t take reservations.)

www.stacks571.com

11AM to 10PM Sun-Thu, 11AM to 11PM Fri-Sat

Burgers, sandwiches and salads.  (Plus a large selection of whiskeys.)  A lively casual restaurant, featuring locally-sourced food.  Part of a local (western Washington) chain.

WILDFIN AMERICAN GRILL

777 Waterfront Way

(360) 718-7701                   (Reservations highly suggested)

https://www.wildfinamericangrill.com/vancouver-restaurant/

11AM to 10PM Mon-Fri, 9:30AM to 10PM Sat-Sun (brunch served 9:30AM to 3PM Sat & Sun)

Large selection of seafood dishes, as well as burgers, steaks, pasta and salads.  Casual with a comfortable sense of style.  Another local chain (western Washington, as well as Beaverton, Oregon).

TWIGS BISTRO AND MARTINI BAR

801 Waterfront Way Suite 103 (downstairs)

(360) 726-4011

https://twigsbistro.com/vancouver

11AM to 10PM Mon-Thu, 11AM to 11PM Fri, 10AM to 11PM Sat-Sun

Steak, seafood, chicken, pasta, sandwiches, pizzas and salads.  A very pleasant place featuring locally-produced ingredients.

BARLOW’S PUBLIC HOUSE

801 Waterfront Way Suite 203 (upstairs)

(360) 719-2043

https://www.barlowsbrewery.com/

11Am-10PM Mon-Thu, 11AM-11PM Fri, 10AM-11PM Sat, 10AM-10PM Sun

Barlow’s is a taphouse with a very large selection of beers (they will open their own brewery soon, but are currently serving beers from a number of breweries).  They do have a private room for large parties.

Their food is excellent (definitely start out with Sam’s Jalapeno Cornbread, and Alicia’s Shrimp and Grits are among the best we’ve had).  Seafood, ribs, chicken, burgers—they have a large selection.

Their “wall of beer” is fascinating.  You start out with a card that’s validated for up to 32 ounces, and you can try as much as you want from their taps (you pour it yourself).  The end charge is a total of everything you poured (they charge by ounce).  Run through the initial 32 ounces—just have your card validated again.  (You probably won’t need to—the two of us did not use up the one card we shared.)

MARYHILL WINERY

801 Waterfront Way Suite 105 (downstairs)

(360) 450-6211

https://www.maryhillwinery.com/Visit/Vancouver

Mon-Thu 11AM-9PM, Fri-Sat 11AM-10PM, Sun11AM-8PM

A tasting room and bistro for the Columbia Gorge Maryhill Winery.  They offer a large number of wines to sample, as well as a selection of small plates to nibble on while you’re tasting the wines.

CLOSE TO THE WATERFRONT

GRAY’S AT THE PARK (in the Hilton Hotel)

301 Sixth Street

(360) 828-4343

https://www.graysatthepark.com/

Daily 6AM to 10PM

This restaurant is located in the Vancouver Hilton hotel (home to GameStorm until recently), and is the one exception to “none of these are expensive”.  Steaks, salmon and other seafood.

EAST OF THE INTERSTATE BRIDGE

The restaurant line-up here (several of which are visible from the hotel) hasn’t changed for several years.

JOE'S CRAB SHACK

101 East Columbia Way

(360) 693-9211

www.joescrabshack.com

Sun - Thu 11AM - 10PM, Fri - Sat 11AM-11PM, Sun 9AM-10PM

Basic chain seafood restaurant (if you’ve eaten at a Joe’s in another city, you know what you’ll find here).  Nothing exciting, but it is convenient.

WHO SONG & LARRY'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT & CANTINA

111 SE Columbia Way (across the parking lot from Joe’s Crab Shack)

(360) 695-1198

www.whosongandlarrys.com/

Mon-Thu 11AM-10pm, Fri 11AM-11PM, Sat 9AM-11PM, Sun 9AM-10PM

Standard chain Mexican restaurant

Further to the east (exit #1 on SR-14):

BEACHES RESTAURANT & BAR

1919 SE Columbia River Dr.

(360) 699-1592

http://beachesrestaurantandbar.com/vancouver/

Daily 11AM-11PM

Used to be a more seafood-oriented restaurant but now offers a more general menu.

MCMENAMINS ON THE COLUMBIA

1801 S.E. Columbia River Dr.

(360) 699-1521

www.mcmenamins.com/mcmenamins-on-the-columbia

Sun-Thu 11AM-11PM, Fri-Sat 11AM-1AM

The closest outlet to the hotel of a local chain of pubs, brewpubs, hotels and movie theaters.  (The McMenamin brothers helped change the law to allow brewpubs in Oregon, thereby starting the whole movement towards good locally-produced beer in Oregon.)  The menu is somewhat limited at this location, but it’s a nice place for a lunch.
