Artwork Guide

What sort of artwork

First, the content of the images needs to be inoffensive and appropriate for all audiences. Bold blocks of color,
bright and high contrast images make striking advertisements and printed materials like posters, postcards and bookmarks. Bookmarks
work best with artwork that is portrait orientation. The souvenir book cover and center spread work best with artwork in a landscape
orientation.

Something that was specific to my ideas for content, I asked for a special image(s) from each of the GoHs for their feature page. Did
they want to promote any special works? For Elmore it was the cover art of his most recent book. For Roland it was a collaborative project
he was doing with another artist.

Color/Black & White

Color images are ideal but having a few black and white images is fabulous. A large section of the publications is
black and white and it is nice to have artwork meant to be printed that way.

File size

Ideally, file sizes should be in highest resolution we can get. I really liked being able to use artwork for a two page spread
(inside and cover). So an 11"x17" image would need to be about 3300x5100 pixels to print at 300dpi. We can go as low as 200dpi on
some images but the details might get fuzzy.

Image type

All images will be printed as .TIFF, however the Pubs person should always have the software to open and convert image files
of nearly every format. It is common that the images to arrive as .JPG. Sending artwork as RGB is ok, Pubs will have to convert all
images to CMYK prior to printing. If an image is heavy in vibrant blues and the artist is concerned about how that image will translate
to CMYK they should probably do the conversion themselves and make any needed adjustments (or choose a different image entirely).

File size

It is best to send high resolution images that can be used for printing and Pubs can reduce the resolution for web. I've received
files on a cd when email was available, but file share systems like Google and Dropbox can make sharing large files easy.

Images for marketing

It is a good idea to have one image that gets carried across all of you PR. I would suggest finding an image that
would work well as both posters and bookmarks. The image file would also need to be large enough to print as 9x11".
